The super-oversized steerer technology, which Giant hopes will become a new industry standard, increases torsional rigidity by a claimed 30percent without weight penalty. It also adds bending stiffness, of which more later, but does require a handlebar stem with 1 ¼” clamp internal diameter.

 

Of the several new features found on the 2012 Giant road bikes, OverDrive 2 is probably the most notable. But there’s also Continuous Fiber Technology, which employs fibres that run without break the length of the front triangle moulding and there’s Carbon Nanotube Technology.

 

The former stiffens the moulding by ensuring that load paths travel along the length of the fibres rather than being transferred between them by the resin where they overlap. The resin itself benefits from Giant’s huge
