FELT Breed: a gravel race bike built for modern competition

FELT has unveiled the latest evolution of its gravel race platform, the Breed, marking a clear shift towards purpose‑built performance for riders who pin on a number rather than head out for a gentle explore. Designed and engineered at FELT’s Barcelona headquarters, the new Breed aims to deliver the speed, efficiency and handling demanded by today’s increasingly competitive gravel scene.

FELT Breed in the wild

The launch follows closely on the heels of FELT’s new Nexar aero road bike – which we recently covered here – and suggests the brand is intent on re‑establishing itself at the sharp end of performance bike development.

A platform designed specifically for gravel racing

Rather than adapting an existing road or adventure chassis, FELT has built the Breed as a dedicated gravel race bike from the ground up. The previous generation, introduced in 2022, was already ahead of the curve with wide tyre clearance, multiple bottle mounts and a geometry aimed at racing rather than bikepacking. FELT says the new model continues that direction, informed by feedback from riders competing at major international gravel events.

FELT Breed: Weight and construction

The flagship Breed FRD frame comes in at a claimed 950g (size 54), with a complete bike weight of 7.04kg. FELT reports this as a 22.8% reduction compared with the previous equivalent model. Two carbon layups are available across the range, with the FRD and Pro models using the brand’s highest‑grade fibres, while the Expert and Race versions use a slightly heavier but still race‑oriented construction.

Aerodynamics for gravel

FELT claims a 10.5% drag reduction over the outgoing Breed. This comes from a revised frame profile shaped around wider gravel tyres, a new fork designed to manage airflow more cleanly, and an ultralight one‑piece carbon cockpit. While aero gains in gravel are always context‑dependent, FELT’s approach mirrors the broader trend of applying road‑style efficiency to off‑road racing.

Geometry and fit

The Breed adopts what FELT calls an “aero road‑inspired” geometry, with a focus on stability and control at race speeds. Key features include:

  • Lower bottom bracket drop for improved cornering confidence
  • Longer front centre and balanced trail figures for high‑speed stability
  • Stiff rear triangle tuned for sprinting and accelerations

Tyre clearance is generous, with room for 54mm up front and 52mm at the rear, giving riders flexibility for different race conditions. The frame also supports up to four bottle mounts, an optional suspension fork and full dropper post compatibility. FELT says handling characteristics remain consistent across all six frame sizes.

FELT Breed Models and specifications

The new Breed will be available in four complete builds:

  • FRD & PRO – top‑tier carbon, lowest weight, and precise handling for elite and high-level competitive racing. SRAM groupset
  • Expert & Race – durable FELT carbon layup, race‑focused geometry, entry point to the platform, SRAM‑equipped

A standalone FRD frameset will also be offered for riders wanting a custom build.

Availability

The FELT Breed range will be available worldwide through authorised dealers from May 2026. Check out the new Breed on the Felt website.

I've riding and racing bikes since I was 12, which was a long time ago now! From the days of steel, wool and toe-clips, to carbon-fibre, lycra and clip-less, it's been an adventure on and off road, with a bit of track and touring as well. There's nothing that can't be made better with a bike ride!
