POVEC has created the C1, with their electrochromic sport sunglasses, designed for those who ride through rapidly changing light conditions. The standout feature is a solid‑state electrochromic lens system that switches between Category 2 and Category 3 in around one second.

Fast Tint Switching for Changing Light

Traditional photochromic lenses can take 20–60 seconds to react, and liquid‑crystal systems often introduce visual distortion. The C1 uses a solid‑state design adapted from automotive electrochromic technology, allowing riders to adjust tint instantly with a swipe on the earpiece.

POVEC says the system has been tested to withstand heat, UV exposure, vibration and long-term outdoor use, conditions familiar to all cyclists.

Automotive Tech Adapted for Sport

The lens technology comes from Ambilight, a company known for developing electrochromic systems for automotive brands including Audi and BYD. POVEC spent three years reworking the technology into a lightweight sport format, running multiple prototypes through field testing to ensure durability and responsiveness on the bike.

Battery, Charging and Daily Use

The C1 charges via USB‑C on the earpiece and offers up to 28 days of use (based on four hours per day). The tint can be controlled manually, and Bluetooth functionality is available for riders who prefer app-based adjustment.

Frame and Protection

The sunglasses use a 36‑gram TR90 frame, designed for long rides and high‑tempo efforts. The lenses meet ANSI Z87.1 impact standards, and the full system carries an IP65 rating, meaning resistance to rain, dust and sweat.
