Gervais Rioux, the founder of Canada’s Argon 18 bike company, began his lifelong love affair with cycling back in 1973. During his career as a racer Rioux won three Canadian road racing championship titles, three Quebec road race championships, a win at Grand Prix de Beauce, a Tour of Luxembourg, a Tour of Nevada, and represented Canada at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

 

After finishing his racing career he bought a a bike shop in Montreal and became known as a road bike fitting specialist; he completed 2,000 fittings during the 1990s. In 1999 Argon 18 appeared at the Interbike show in the US; with a reputation for impeccable handling, quality fabrication and a refined, detailed finish, the brand soon began to spread beyond its home borders.
