Alé PR-S Zig Zag jersey, perfect for summer rides
PR-S Zig Zag short sleeved women’s jersey
The Alé Zig Zag jersey is part of their PR-S range, short for Pro Racing System. PRS has been developed alongside pro riders to create their highest performing range. Alé claim this jersey is their most advanced jersey yet. Using input from world tour riders, it has the ultimate aerodynamic construction. I’ve used numerous brands of kit over the years for riding and racing, but never Alé, so I was looking forward to putting this jersey to the test.
The jersey comes in three colourways – blue, turquoise or lavender – and it is quite an understated design for Alé, no tropical birds or colourful florals on this one! However, this is not a negative and instead it looks sleek and stylish. The subtle line detailing throughout the jersey with contrast band and panels at the top keep it interesting. It has three pockets across the back which are a decent depth to hold items such as your phone securely. The jersey claims to have a racing fit and I found this to be accurate. I am 178cm tall and 63kg so selected an XS jersey as per the sizing chart. This gave a perfect snug fit with a nice length to the sleeves.
Body-Mapping System
Alé use a technique they call body-mapping to analyse the function of the kit whilst riding. This allows ‘careful selection of fabrics for various areas of the garment dependent on the need for ventilation, breathability and protection‘. This has been used to great effect in multiple areas of this jersey. The body of the jersey is made from a super light Micro Aero fabric with interwoven carbon yarns, something Alé call Rap Dry Carbon. This allows for a better air circulation and keeps the jersey incredibly light at just 115g. It features raw cut sleeves and almost invisible silicon grippers which did a brilliant job of keeping the sleeves in place without feeling in any way bulky.
There is a unique J-stability system gripper at the bottom of the jersey which helps to keep the jersey in exactly the right place as you ride. All of this, Alé claim, gives this jersey a ‘second skin’ feel. After wearing this jersey on 100mile+ rides and in temperatures over 25°c, I’d have to agree. I’ve worn this jersey multiple times in varying conditions and I’m impressed. Once on, I didn’t need to fiddle around adjusting the jersey, it stayed put. The snug fit means there’s no loose fabric to irritatingly catch the wind as you ride.
Conclusion
Overall the Alé Zig Zag jersey is an excellent Pro-level jersey suitable for riding and racing. It looks good, performs well and feels so comfortable that you’ll forget you’re wearing it, what more can you ask? Check out the PR-S Zig Zag jersey on the Alé website.
