CamelBak is the official Giro d’Italia Green Zone Sponsor

You may have noticed the green zones on the Giro this year, sponsored by Camelbak?

In an effort to keep road racing tidy and enviromentally friendly, the new 2015 UCI regulations state that events and races should have a 50 meter long zone to dispose of feeding and drinking waste on the course or the riders may face fines. So CamelBak have partnered with RCS Sport, organisers of the Giro, to fund the introduction of Green Zones at the Tour of Italy in 2015. Consequently there are 100 metres of Green Zones for each waste disposal section in the race to help riders dispose of the waste in an environmentally friendly way.

As part of the deal, a neutral service, CamelBak-branded motorbike is delivering their popular Podium water bottles to any rider whenever necessary on any of the 21 stages.

“The Giro d’Italia is an important sponsorship for CamelBak,” says Chris Strain, Chief Marketing Officer for CamelBak. “It’s a great opportunity for us to demonstrate our Got Your Bak attitude and commitment to sustainable hydration.”

CamelBak has also designed a Giro pink version of its premium Podium water bottle, one of our favourite bottles. A thermal version, which we have also reviewed here, will be given to all of the Service Course support cars on the race. The Pink Podium can be purchased as Memorabilia in the Giro Village shops and on CamelBak.com.

The CamelBak Podium bottle, which incorporates the taste-free, high flow rate bottle with its self-sealing, ‘Jet Valve’ is used by Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling Team.

CamelBak has a long-lasting tradition of sustainability and they believe that providing these Green Zones throughout the Giro, will give riders the opportunity to hydrate and ditch their empty bottles responsibly. Let’s see.
