Remerx Alcyon Wheels Review

The rim would appear to be pretty light so its obviously a good design to be so inherently strong. Two different types of rim are used. The front utilises a thinner walled and thereby lighter rim. At the rear a thicker walled rim, especially in the supporting ridge, is used to better withstand the forces created by pedaling. The average rim weight is apparently 420g.

But onto the important bit: how do they ride? As mentioned earlier they are certainly plenty stiff enough handling uphills and sprints with aplomb. At no time did I have any issues with the stiffness and they were similar to the Mavic Ksyrium SL’s that I use as my benchmark. You could quite happily race and train on these wheels. They are a do it all wheelset.

They are comfortable in the way that all aluminium spoked wheels are, offering a slight deadening of the road’s many imperfections. This ride characteristic will hopefully get you to the end of a race or training ride feeling a bit fresher.

The weight is spot on for this type of wheel, being around the same as a half-decent set of Mavic Ksyriums. Quality wise, and even though the finish of the white wheels is not the best close-up, they are also right up there with more expensive wheels.

Indeed this is where the Remerx wheels really score – the price. For this quality and technology elsewhere you are going to have to pay a bit extra. Now don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of companies

offering fantastic wheels at similar prices and you can even get hand made wheels at this price point. But they have steel spokes; none of them offer the added benefits and technology of aluminium spokes.
