New GB National Jersey
Alé to produce the New GB National Jersey
New Year, new GB National Jersey. Italian clothing manufacturer Alé has signed a four year deal as the official on-bike clothing partner for British Cycling. Alé will supply both training and competition kit for the entire GB team, as well as non-Olympic disciplines. The deal also covers jerseys for national series and championship winners.
New GB National competition kit
The new design that replaces the previous seven year old kit, is an evolution rather than a revolution. The competition kit keeps the all white body, with red and blue highlights. The changes are small and include removing the right hand sleeve’s stripes and adding the Shell logo to both sleeves. The colour of the GBR lettering on the chest has changed from red to blue. Additionally, on the front the Lloyds bank logo has been added.
Also gone are the collar’s red and blue stripes, but the internal motivational message remains “inspire the nation.” A bit of the Alé colour signature has been discreetly added, with a bright yellow silicone gripper on the inside of the bottom hem.
Meanwhile on the rear changes include shortening the rear stripes, so that they stop at the rear pockets. Something that may have some patriots in a tizzy, is the removal of the Union Jack. While I like the look of the Union Jack, it did look like a bit of an afterthought, so not a bad idea. Maybe it could have been used on the shoulders instead of the Shell logo? Then again, they are sponsors and want to see that reflected on the new GB national jersey!
Training Kit
The new GB National training kit has also changed, but keeps the overall all-blue look. While the colourway remains the same, gone are the white and red chest stripes and red GBR. These are replaced by single left arm stripes and a larger, faded red GBR on the chest. The red fade is also used on a pattern of triangles that runs across the bottom of the jersey. Finally, white Shell logos adorn both shoulders.
Chief Commercial Officer for British Cycling, Darren Henry said: “We are delighted to be entering into this new chapter with Alé as our official on-bike clothing partner for the next four years. We welcome them into the growing portfolio of commercial partners at British Cycling and we look forward to working with them to help grow their brand in the UK market.”
