As for the new SRAM Red 22 the hydraulic cylinders are contained neatly in the shift levers, an added bulge which has had mixed responses, though we think looks good and early ride reports suggest offers a great position. It will be interesting to see what the pros make of it.
The SRAM Red 22 disc caliper is compact and neat with 19mm front/18mm rear pistons. It is a fully sealed system and has a road specific caliper and piston ratio. The recommended rotors are 160mm for road and 140mm for cyclo-cross, though early adopters seem to have a mix of both with the larger rotor up front. Weight for the new shift lever, the caliper, all hoses and the road 160mm rotor is a reasonable 449 grams per wheel…
