Since sponsoring their first pro team in 2007, the ill fated Unibet, Canyon bikes have won everything from world championships to Grand Tour jerseys. Famously Philippe Gilbert rode Canyon bicycles during his best ever season in 2011 which saw him win 18 races and finish as world number one, and currently bike sponsor to Katusha, Canyon are constantly in the headlines with the likes of Joaquim ‘Purito’ Rodriguez. Katusha riders have two road bikes to choose from, the Aeroad CF and the Ultimate CF SLX.

The Aeroad CF is Canyon’s take on the wind-cheating road bike, perfect for long, lone daring escapes. Last year the Aeroad won Flèche Wallone, plus stages in the Giro d`Italia and Vuelta a España. And if you are making that long escape then you want a bike that is comfortable as well.

To that end Canyon uses Basalt fibres combined with the carbon fibre in both the VCLS Aero seat post and the Aeroblade SL carbon fork. VCLS stands for Vertical Comfort Lateral Stiffness, the idea being to allow some vertical movement, giving comfort while controlling any unwanted sideways flex. Canyon believe that by relieving the body of the need to absorb the constant low level shocks from the road surface, the energy saved can be used to propel the bike forward.

As well as it’s aero advantages the Aeroad CF has an adjustable cam in the fork dropout that allows you to alter it’s rake, called Rake Shift for faster or slower steering depending on your preference. The cam is changeable using a TX10 Torx key and can go from 55mm of rake, for a livelier, quicker steering front end, to 60mm for a slower more stable ride. Canyon also have a mid range cam, 57.5mm, if you prefer a bit of both.
