Sportiiiis have produced a heads-up display for athletes perfect for those time trial or head down interval efforts

A nifty training and racing aid from Canadian company 4iiii, the Sportiiiis is a small unit that fits onto the arm of your sunglasses and offers a visual guide to your effort.

It can be programmed to relay info on speed, power or heart rate, from any ANT+ device. As well as visual cues, you can tap the sunglasses-mounted arm and get an audible cue of your heart rate, or double tap and switch between two paired sensors.

The Sportiiiis uses four colours to keep you informed of where you are in your zoned training. This is a great idea for time triallists or triathletes, as rather than having to look down to see your computer and in the process causing your aero helmet to become an airbrake, you can stay in the tuck, safe in the knowledge you are working as hard as you need to in order to produce that PB.

Using the Mac, PC or Smartphone software, the LEDs can be programmed to provide a visual response to data from specific chosen ANT+ devices. This workout program is then downloaded to the Sportiiiis unit. For example, when paired with a heart rate monitor strap, you can create a custom setup for how the LEDs will respond to your heart rate at various BPMs. A tap on the unit at the side of your head could then switch to power based visual cues where watts are used.

These units are already in use with many triathletes and we know of MTB downhillers who have used similar technology before. It may be a while before we expect to see it at the local 10 mile time-trial anytime soon though…

Sportiiiis HUDs are currently only available in Canada and the US, where they retail for for $149.99.
