K-TORNADO 2.0 Jacket Preview
Alè says the K-TORNADO 2.0 is a jacket that fits like a jersey. We take a brief look in this preview.
The K-TORNADO 2.0 jacket belongs to Alè’s KLIMATIK range. This has been “specifically developed to support riders during extreme conditions”. The jacket uses DVstretch fabric from eVent, which is the first stretchable windproof laminate fabric. This allows the fabric to stretch and adapt to your body, while still keeping its weather resistant properties.
That weather resistance comes in two parts. First is the Direct Venting membrane which is sandwiched between a DWR treated outer fabric and the backer fabric. This blocks the wind while still allowing moisture and body-heat to escape. Second is the DWR treated face fabric which keeps the rain out. The lamination process that bonds the three layers and allows each to do its job, is what makes DVstretch special.
The K-TORNADO 2.0 a “jacket that fits like a jersey“
I like that Alè calls the K-TORNADO 2.0 a “jacket that fits like a jersey” as I’m not a fan of bulky clothing on the bike. It’s bad enough having to struggle into a headwind without your clothing acting like a parachute! It’s the stretchy nature of the jacket that allows for this more aero fit while – hopefully – still keeping you warm and dry.
The K-TORNADO 2.0 is actually quite a simple item of clothing, the tech is in the fabric. However there are plenty of winter touches that should make winter rides pleasant. As Alè says every ride “has to be fun and never a pain”! Starting from the top you have a long collar with a thermal, brushed collar-liner. The full-length zip is protected with a flap, so no cold wind getting through there. Attached to the zip-pull is a loop with a neat little Alè logo, this should make it easier to use with gloves.
Around the back there are the standard three pockets. These have a mesh inner, presumably to keep moisture from building up in this area. On the outside they are covered in DVstretch which should keep the contents dry and there’s a reflective Alè logo, for added visibility. The tail is slightly extended to offer some protection from road spray.
Moving around to the sides and running from just underneath the arm to the wrist is a different fabric. This looks to be just a standard fleece-backed material, which makes sense as it’s not subject to the same conditions. Presumably it will also help keep you cooler as there’s less restriction to heat escaping from here.
Pair them with K-TOUR bib-tights
My navy-blue and black sample has flouro-yellow highlights on the arms, inside the pockets, across the back and under the waistband. Speaking of which, the waistband has a silcone strip to help it stay put, which is always good. We’ll pair these with the KLIMATIK K-TOUR bib-tights from Alè that we’re also reviewing. With this combination riding outdoors might be more tempting! See the jacket on the Alè website.
