A cheap, reliable solution to the faff of fitting tubeless tyres without the need for an expensive air compressor?

Airshot Ltd is a UK based company that has been established to design, develop, and provide new, well-engineered and competitively priced products to riders. After months of testing both in workshops and out on the trails, they are ready to release their first self-titled product, “Airshot” to much critical acclaim amongst riders. Airshot is a device designed to make the inflation of tubeless tyres as easy as possible; ensuring wherever you are, you can always pop a tyre on which is perfect for the home mechanic.

Tubeless tyres have become increasingly popular due to their claimed advantages of; running lower pressures; puncture resistance; and overall weight reduction. The MTB world has been taking advantage of this technology for years, with cyclo-cross and road slowly beginning to catch up.

One downside associated with the use of tubeless, which can add frustration and kill off the idea with just one bad experience (I am sure those that have experimented with tubeless set up have had at least one ghastly, exasperating experience), is the thought of struggling to mount a tyre on the bead with a track pump. Hours of furious and futile pumping, or using expensive CO2 cartridges, or playing fast and loose with your health and safety with a guerrilla style home-made pressure pump canister made from a coke can; messy latex sealant and bowls of soapy water. Only to give up and take the wheels to a bike shop and get someone else to do it for you – added expense you didn’t really account for and stripping away any cost saving benefit you might have been hoping for by going tubeless.

Airshot, gives you the ability to charge an air bottle quite easily using a normal track pump. Then, by simply applying the pump head to the valve on your wheel and releasing the air tap, a controlled fast high volume shot of air is released to instantly mount the tyre onto the bead, et voila! Airshot’s threaded metal valve design ensures that you do not have any trouble transferring air across to the tyre. The system also comes supplied with an adaptor that allows you to remove the valve core if necessary.

In principle this is an easy and efficient solution to help with the fitting of tubeless tyres and I am hoping it will speed up the process and make it a less onerous task. I will report back soon.
