Scapin Ivor road bike and Spektro Mountain Bike
A quick look at two range toppers from Italian brand, Scapin…
The Ivor is the top of the Scapin road range. Tailor-made in Piove di Sacco, they promise that it is 100% ‘Made in Italy’. As such comes with a lifetime guarantee and sports designer details such the owner’s name on the down tube.
The frame is made from the well proven Toray 800 carbon and for the 2015 there are some small technical upgrades to last year’s version, with changes made to the rear and front derailleur cable routing, and the seat clamp and seat tube have also been completely revised.
Though available in standard sizes and geometry, delivery of a custom IVOR takes 60 days from the date of order. There are 7 different colour options; my favourite is below.
The SPEKTRO 29”
The SPEKTRO 29” is top of the Scapin 29-er range, is designed for XC races and marathons.
Like the Ivor, it has a monocoque frame in T800 carbon fibre, with a special layup that produces a frame weight of 950g for the M version.
The SPEKTRO is designed to be slim and aggressive with a very compact rear triangle and shortened chainstays. The seat tube has been shaped to improve rear wheel clearance and reduce the size of that rear triangle.
There are internal gear cables with anodised cable-router plates. The brake cable actually passes under the frame so, at the base of the bottom bracket, they have added an aluminium plate that acts as a shield to protect it. This plate can be removed and replaced when required…
The Spektro has 12 mm thru-axles front and rear, a 92mm wide Press Fit bottom bracket and a 27.2 mm seat post. The bike is available in the sizes S-M-L and in 7 colour combinations.
