Fixie Inc.
[two_third]
Then an email drops into my inbox titled “whistles” – a friend pointing towards an ad on the CyclocrossUK forum listing the sale of a Fixie Inc. Pure Blood Cyclocross Frame, fork and, included in the sale, a set of Bontrager Select Disc wheels, Chris King Head set, Pro Components LT Stem, in-line FRS Seat post, and Avid BB7 disc brakes; a BARGAIN.
I immediately checked my pockets, and then my wallet and in desperation even looked on-line at my bank balance…I was resigned to the fact that I was going to have to let this go and duly sent off a reply to my friend – “I’m interested but no luck of getting hold of the funds this month”.
A day or so later there was an updated reply – basically it was a friend of my friend selling the bike and a discussion had taken place and a character reference shared – “no rush for the money and if you want it then you are welcome to it” – a very fine and generous gesture.
New bike day; is there any other day more exciting? Not even Christmas I would suggest. I retrieved the bike and brought it home – to build the bike all I needed was a couple of cables, STI levers, rear and front mech, cassette, pedals, cranks and chain set. Handy to have a winter road bike that I could cannibalise for all the parts needed with the exception of a Cyclocross specific chain set. An order was duly placed for a Shimano CX70 with 172.5mm cranks and a visit to the local bike shop for brake and gear cables.
