Three folds – or is that six?

If the tub is new, it does not much matter if the base tape at one fold presses against the tread at another, but if pre-ridden and bearing a layer of adhesive, the tyre should be folded so that one section of base tape only touches another; adhesive presses against adhesive, as it were. Although this looks like it might make the tape hard to separate after a while – and does – it keeps the adhesive from picking up dirt and from getting transferred to the tread or sidewalls.
