GripGrab Racing, the ultimate lightweight glove?

We’ve been sent a pair of GripGrab Racing gloves to try out over the summer. GripGrab are a Danish company that were founded back in 2000 by three brothers; Martin, Kristian and Bjørn Krøyer. They produce gloves and other accessories for cyclists and runners and being Scandinavian you’d expect their winter kit to be top-notch. I’m more interested in how their long gloves will cope with my ‘cross riding over the summer months.

The GripGrab Racing glove was developed after getting feedback from former mountain bike World Champions Jacob Fuglsang and Roel Paulissen. They wanted a glove that maximised control and feel of the bars, pretty simple. So GripGrab produced a glove that had a minimalist palm, a second skin almost, that allowed the rider to feel the bars, with the addition of 2mm of Doctor Gel padding at key points on the palm. Add in touch screen compatible fingertips and an Air Flow mesh back and you have all you need for a summer glove.

There are a couple of other little touches, like magnetic tabs in the wrist band to help keep the gloves together and a sweat wiper. Yeah right, “sweat”! The GripGrab Racing glove uses an elastic wristband rather than velcro closures, which I prefer. The fit is meant to be tight and close-fitting, so pay attention to their size guides.

I will be using these on my summer ‘cross rides, where the extra protection from stinging nettles and brambles is always appreciated and putting your hand into a fresh cow pat isn’t such a drama with full finger gloves! On longer rides with standard road gloves I always find I get extra blisters on my fingers where the gloves end – not something that happens to me on the road – so I’m looking forward to the GripGrab Racing putting an end to this.
