Mango Bikes launch geared road bike

Already well known for their single speed and fixies, Mango Bikes have introduced their first geared road bike…

Mango Bikes

Mango Bikes was started by Ben and Jezz whilst they were looking for a way of getting in and out of college on bikes that worked, looked good and didn’t cost an arm and leg. They now provide cost effective yet desirable, quality bikes.

“It didn’t seem right to us that you can buy a car exactly to your spec or shoes to your design, but that bikes were only available in a few dull, pre-selected colours,” they say in their marketing spiel. “We decided to take things a step further and let you, the rider, do the designing of your bike. Your Mango isn’t just a tool for getting from A to B, but it’s a fashion accessory that you’re proud to be seen with. We like all the things that you like, and more. We like the urban commute, dodging traffic. We like the downhill cruise to the hidden cove. We like the climb back up again. We like the quick way to the bar. We like not having to use the car.”

Keen to grow their market Mango have the all new 2014 geared range from the “Black Series”. In a world dominated By Shimano and SRAM, it’s refreshing to see the bike features an 18-speed MicroSHIFT R9 groupset.

Designed to be an all-rounder, well suited to a rider looking for a cheap way into the road bike world and to year round commuters, the relaxed frame geometry, nimble handling and shock absorbing steel frame are designed to provide all day long comfort, stability at low and high speeds, and good road manners.

Finishing kit includes fully sealed Chasewood hubs and chainset, and extra versatility comes from the provision of mudguard and pannier mounts.

The Mango Bikes website includes a ‘Build Your Own Bike’ function allowing you to build exactly the bike you want to an extent, including choosing some components and colour schemes. We had a quick play with it and came up with this bike in Handsling Racing Team colours, all for under £500, which is pretty good…
