However, on one set of wheels this pump and the valve did not get along. After a bit of fiddling we realised that the valve stem of the particular tubular we were trying to inflate was damaged. However, an older track pump simply blasted past whatever the obstruction was that caused the Tiny Tanker some trouble; that same old track pump has a habit of destroying inner tubes at the valve though…

The only other issue is the position you have to adopt in use. You have to lean over a fair bit more than with a full size pump but it shouldn’t really bother fit cyclists and obviously in choosing this pump you would bear that in mind; we consider it a minor issue for the sake of a pump that is so portable and user friendly in so many other ways.

So who’s it for then? Its not the best workshop pump. Look elsewhere in the Birzman range for that, but it is a great in-the-house or perhaps even more appropriately, upstairs flat pump. For those who live in the relatively confined spaces of cities and have nice wooden floors and trendy furniture, this pump will tick a lot of boxes. It looks good enough to have it out on display, yet is compact, light and portable, thereby easy to stash away when space is an issue.

The size means its also a great pump for younger riders to use, so if you have a budding junior star in your household, this may be a great pressie to go with that new carbon race bike. It shouldn’t take too long to get them to pumping up your tyres as well as their own…

If you race or ride events a lot and have to travel, either in your own car or by catching lifts from teammates, or are forced to use the train, and you want a pump that is powerful yet a little bit easier to manage, without having to resort to a standard heavyweight workshop pump, the Birzman Zacoo Tiny Tanker makes so much sense.

Plus, with the Tiny Tanker sticking out your kit bag, you’ll look good…
