Birzman Zacoo Tiny Tanker
[two_third]
The Tiny Tanker is easier to cart around, no matter where you are working on your bike. It measures just 51cm tall and is 6cm x 19cm at the base and is light at just 832g. This compares favourably against my usual pump at 67cm tall and a whopping but not unusual, 2,293g.
Despite this small size, my best track tubs will testify that the Birzman Zacoo Tiny Tanker can reach pressures of 170 psi with ease and so should be able to make the claimed 220psi. It does this by maintaining a decent barrel length (47cm of the total 51cm height vs 52cm of 67cm for my usual pump), and doing away with the other superfluous bits of a traditional track pump, such as the elongated piston rod, the spring below the handle and the heavy base.
The big selling point of this pump, aside from its size and looks, is the Presta fitting, ‘aluminum and composite matrix’ Snap-it valve, which is held up as a game changer. You simply cock it ready for use by pulling the outer back, then fit it over the tube’s valve core, push the outer down and twist it to secure. Though we cannot see it, we are assured that this allows two threaded bits to securely clamp the valve on either side preventing it blowing off under higher pressures. Its relatively easy to use and fits onto most valve stems without issue. It is meant to be kinder to valve cores and tubes, lessening the chance of pulling them out or tearing the tube at the base of the valve.
