Raleigh RXC Pro Disc
The Raleigh RXC Pro Disc comes out of the box with disc brakes, electronic shifting, carbon fibre everything (well almost), and a subtle black color scheme with white and blue accents. This bike has all the ingredients to be muddy belle of the ball at your local bike race at the primary school. A small deduction for clincher wheels: on a gloriously insane bicycle why compromise with practical choices? There was a rumour that Raleigh UK were going to import a few of these but we are not sure if this has happened…
Focus Mares CX 1.0
The German Focus isn’t as gizmonic as the Raleigh above. The black frame with Rapha gold, blue, and pink accents is subtly menacing. The bike includes a more standard parts mix including SRAM Red, cantilever brakes and, god bless you Focus, tubular Easton EC 90s. The minimalist parts selection results in a UCI-weight limit cross bike. Negative marks only for the number of brand references on the frame (it is also available in red).
Colnago Cyclocross Prestige or World Cup
In cyclocross, the same two guys always win. What do they ride? Italian Colnagos. The Colnago Prestige is an impressive machine: carbon fibre, tubulars, electronic shifting, and disc brakes. Colnago has a history of unusual frame designs. This one includes a useful eccentricity: at the join of the top tube and seat tube, there’s a shouldering bridge for more comfortable carrying. Get the black, white and red color option and leave the World Champion scheme to Albert – unless you enjoy heckling.
