SEEMEE 100 AD RADAR LIGHT

SEEMEE 100 AD Radar Light from Magishine brings added rear visibility to your ride.

Magishine’s SEEMEE 100 AD tail-light brings radar technology to all. The rear-facing tail-light has an added feature to increase your visibility on the road. Buried inside the light is a rear-facing radar that is constantly scanning the road behind you for approaching traffic. When the unit senses an oncoming vehicle it sends out a 100 lumens flash, alerting the driver to your presence.

Previously radar lights displayed this information via your head-unit. This meant you had to be using a compatible unit to see the alert. The SEEMEE 100 AD approaches the problem of traffic approaching from the rear in a different way. It alerts the driver of the vehicle, giving them time to adjust their speed if necessary. This means you don’t need to have any technology on your bike for the system to work. The SEEMEE 100 AD puts the onus on the driver, rather than the cyclist.

Cyclist visibility, a good thing!

The SEEMEE 100 AD has a range of “up to 25 metres” and will flash when it detects a vehicle moving between 5 and 160 Kph. Hopefully you won’t be riding on roads where cars are going that fast as a car moving at 160kph would cover 25 metres in under a second, so stay off those roads! Moving on to slower roads where vehicles are moving at 40kph would give a driver two and a half seconds to react.

Magicshine says the core mission of the SEEMEE 100 AD is to “significantly boost cyclist visibility through auto-detection and high-intensity flashing alerts, thereby reducing the risks associated with busy urban roads.” While I like the idea of making drivers alert to the presence of other vulnerable road users, this shouldn’t mean you pay less attention to your surroundings. Riding on public roads with fast moving traffic can be dangerous if you’re not alert. This tail-light’s added radar can make this activity safer, by making drivers more aware.

Specifications

The SEEMEE 100 AD is small, but powerful. It measures 57x36x25mm and weighs only 38g. However that little package packs a punch. Its 700mAh battery can keep the lights on for a claimed 18 hours and power the 100 Lumen flash. Charging is via a USB C port hiding inside the rear mount. Two side-mounted buttons let you switch the light and radar on and off independently. It also has an IPX6 waterproof rating, 180 degree visibility and will withstand a one metre drop.

Other features include PelotonSync Flash and FTR LightSync Control. The first allows your lights to sync with other Magicshine users, creating a unified light output. Meanwhile FTR LightSync Control lets you control front and rear lights via a handlebar mounted remote. This makes switching your lights on and off mid-ride much simpler and safer.

I’ll be trying out the SEEMEE 100 AD on my local roads to see if the local drivers are impressed. More importantly will they give me that extra bit of space when they overtake? Head over to Magicshine’s website for me details and to see the rest of their range.
