A preview of VeloElite 38mm Carbon Wheels
Spring has sprung and what better way to greet the season than with a new set of wheels, the VeloElite Carbon Wide 350 wheels.
VeloElite are based in Northamptonshire, where they have a showroom where you can see their wheels as well as a bike-fit studio. Their impressive range of wheels are hand-built in the UK by master wheel builder Tom Scott-Collins. The range includes wheels for road, ‘cross/gravel, Mtb and time-trial/triathlon; something for everyone. There’s even some aluminium rim brake wheels in there, for us old-timers.
We’ll be trying out the disc version of the VeloElite Carbon Wide 350 wheels. These are VeloElite’s “entry level” wheelset, not bad for entry level! The wide part of the name refers to the rim width; 21mm internal and 30mm external. There’s also a rim brake version if you’re still them and a standard width disc rim. The standard rims measurements are 18mm wide internally, 27mm external. Our wheels have a claimed weight of`1458g.
The 350 in Carbon Wide 350, refers to the DT Swiss 350 hubs at their heart. These centre-lock disc hubs come with super fast bearings and share technology with DT Swiss’ 240 hubs. Holding it all together are Sapim CX-Ray spokes and they are, of course, tubeless ready.
Our wheels came already shod with Continental’s GP 5000TL tyres, discs and skewers, so all we have to do is thrown on a cassette and ride. Once we’ve given them a good thrashing, we’ll let you know how they handled. In the meantime check out the VeloElite website and see what they have.
