New cycle clothing brand Svelte Cycles launches on kickstarter
London cycle brand Svelte Cycles launches with a kickstarter campaign that aims to offer cyclists ‘the finest quality of style-conscious cycling clothing at affordable prices’…
The clothing is at present both designed and manufactured in London, the range starting with their flagship Heritage Jersey, ‘competitively priced at £60’.
The Heritage Jersey is designed be minimalist, timeless and understated – don’t expect loads of gimmicky features as this is ‘a pared down product for style-conscious cyclists who want the best possible experience when riding’. It’s available in blue, green and burgundy.
Svelte use a unique blend of Merino wool and Polyester from Denmark, chosen for its breathability and wicking properties, essential for any serious rider, and for its ability to maintain the tailored shape of the Svelte jerseys.
Despite the Danish material, Svelte are keen to promote the London connection and even support local manufacturing by making all the jerseys in London’s East End.
Svelte Cycles was set up by Tom Barber who, frustrated by the lack of ‘quality, fashion-forward, cyclewear’ at reasonable prices, set his sights on making his own range. Svelte are looking for £10,000 through kickstarter, in order to meet the minimum order and bring the Heritage Jersey to the market.
Tom Barber says, “I’m really proud of the product we have developed – it’s been a long and sometimes arduous process – but it’s been worth it and I am confident that cyclists will love our new Heritage Jersey, as well as the rest of our range. A passionate cyclist myself, there is nothing better than being able to support the city I live in by creating a fashion-forward, yet practical cycling range.”
The key features of the Svelte jerseys are:
1. Modern design – Svelte have taken great care to craft a jersey that is design focused, with minimalist branding and clean whole colour colour ways.
2. Innovative fit and functionality – Svelte built the Heritage Jersey from the ground up, and have created a male and female specific fit with new pocket layouts, a new athletic fit with relaxed styling, and a cut that will enable riders to feel at home on the bike after 5 hours or in the cafe on a relaxed Sunday afternoon…
3. Putting consumers first – Svelte have used the best fabrics and the best manufacturers, but because will sell directly to consumers, passing on savings and selling a premium product for a reasonable price.
4. Made ethically and sustainably – Svelte are keen on promoting local manufacturing, as well as fairness and sustainability throughout the manufscturing process.
