POC VPD 2.0 Spine pack Review
Incorporated in the same section of the bag there is a double compartment for general storage, which is accessed via zips on each side. These compartments lend themselves to storing non-valuable, soft items like gloves, spare clothing, etc, rather than anything hard or valuable. The reason for this is that it is not afforded any protection and should you fall back or even lean back, on a chair lift for instance, then whatever is placed in that compartment is first to take the impact.
Situated on each side of the bag are 2 deep, stretchy pouches that are ideal for items that you need access to on the move, such as a water bottle, goggles, hat or similar.
The waist straps are padded and provide good kidney protection, clipping securely with a chunky plastic clip.
My only issue here was with the length of the straps. I’ll come clean and admit I’m on the slim side; I call it ideal climbing weight, others call it skinny. Either way, once I tighten up the waist strap there is a lot of unneeded strap left over. Not a big issue, but even for a much larger person than me clad in full baggy ski / snowboarder, I suspect that there would be strap to spare. However, like every detail of this product it is neatly and subtly taken care of with a little velcro system to secure extra strap and then you can thread it through an elasticated loop.
The other feature to note on the waist straps are stretchy zip up pouches. Again, ideal for non fragile items that you need to access on the move such as multi tool, tyre levers, etc.
