De Marchi Veloce Jersey and Shorts
The only unfortunate element of the design is the front zipper pocket on the jersey. The concept is a fantastic one as I don’t like reaching around to my back pocket to fiddle with my phone, nor do I like soaking it with sweat during longer rides. On first sight, I much preferred the snug aerodynamic pocket in the front of the Veloce jersey.
The design of the pocket on the jersey highlights De Marchi’s attention to detail, even down to the reinforced cord hole in the waterproof pouch. It should be perfect then? It would be if it weren’t too small. The pouch works with most race radios and with MP3 players, but it was too small even for an iPhone 4, one of the more compact phones on the market these days.
My advice to De Marchi? Offer a front pocket that fits, or place a larger pocket in the back of the jersey with the same waterproof design; it wouldn’t be as convenient, but it would also keep the larger piece of kit out of the way.
Final Thoughts
De Marchi kit does not come cheap, but the quality of the materials and the construction cannot be denied. I wore the Veloce shorts and jersey as quickly as I could wash them, they were that good.
If most rides are short or you aren’t a cycling stylist, the Veloce line might not benefit you significantly. If you like to wear some of the best cycling clothing on offer or you spend long days in the saddle, we can’t recommend this short and jersey combination strongly enough.
