Howies Cycle Clothing

April 2013

Howies launch a new range of road cycling clothing…

Straight out of West Wales come Howies, purveyors of all things natural and wholesome, with a penchant for technical Merino wool running and outdoor clothing, they’ve never produced a road cycling range until now.

Howies started as a screen print shop and they still produce tees in-house, by hand. They’re keen outdoors types, running, riding and generally mucking about, and have a great range of outdoor technical and leisure clothing, which they produce to last as they believe that ‘a product which lasts longer is better for the environment’. Howies were involved in sponsoring a team in the Manchester Velodrome’s Revolution Track Series earlier this year.

The new road range consists of short and long sleeved jerseys and bib shorts. All are made using a seam free tubular knitting method. This method allows for different thicknesses and patterns to be incorporated into the design, without resorting to stitched in panels. This means no seams to rub or chafe.

The shorts have a dual density anti-bacterial foam pad and a rear pocket for your race radio…

The jerseys have integrated, breathable panels and have an ‘athletic’ cut, so there’s no excess material to flap in the wind – just make sure you don’t have any excess material yourself! There’s three pockets at the rear, the middle being zipped with a reflective trim. The short sleeved jersey also has reflective tape around the sleeve hem and a hidden half zip.

Like a certain Ford the range is available in any colour, as long as it’s black. But then as we know, black goes with everything; and its slimming.

Prices are very reasonable with the short sleeve jersey retailing at £49, the long sleeve at £59 and the bib shorts for £59.

We are hoping to get some of this excellent looking British kit to test and will let you know what we think of it.
