Trek Cronus CX

Trek Cronus

The Trek Cronus borrows technology from Trek’s advanced road bikes. The frame includes Trek’s BB90, a crown mounted housing stop, internal cable routing, and surprisingly (but very usefully) at this level, comes with removable mudguard mounts, hinting at the versatility of cyclo-cross bikes.

Kuota Kross

Kuota Kross

The Italian Kuota Kross certainly looks the part with aggressive, angular lines and its full monocoque construction, based on their top of the range Tour proven road bikes, promises to live up to the looks.

British firm Planet-X are big into cyclo-cross and offer some great frames to the potential racer. As well as the Guerciotti frames mentioned earlier, what caught our eye was the Planet X Pro Carbon XLS, which has a PF30 bottom bracket, tapered headtube and a flattened top tube, and from their sister company, the On-One Dirty Disco Carbon, a great looking disc compatible carbon cyclo-cross frame. Planet X put a lot of time and effort into ensuring that their frames are of the highest quality and we know guys who race these frames really hard and love them. If you are based Stateside, Planet-X also have a US distribution base in Portland.

…and finally don’t forget your Local Frame Builder

Growing up in Northern California, Tim Granshaw often relied on two local framebuilders for his road and cyclocross bikes. Brent Steelman of Steelman Cycles and Paul Sadhoff of Rock Lobster built the ‘perfect bike every time’. Buy from a frame builder and you can be sure you’ll get a unique bike constructed to your requirements.

Tim’s latest Rock Lobster is exactly the orange that he wanted, with frame geometry similar to his favourite road bike. If you’re prepared to surrender a little coffee shop panache for the perfect ride, stop by your local shop to get some advice on local frame builders.
