Schwalbe G ONE R PRO line
Schwalbe G ONE R PRO line, tyres for race day.
The Schwalbe G ONE R PRO line is the German company’s next generation of gravel race tyres. Schwalbe say that the new tyres have been “developed with the best athletes in the world“. With the addition of the RX PRO, the G ONE R PRO range now covers all weather/ground conditions. Well, maybe not all, there’s no racing ice spikes; yet!
Schwalbe says the new tyre have improved characteristics thanks to the following features;
— RACE PRO more puncture protection and less rolling resistance
— V-GUARD now even wider to enhance protected area
— ADDIX RACE new compound for even lower rolling resistance
— TLR Tubeless Ready
— New size 50-622
— Addition of black sidewall colour
G ONE RACE PRO carcass
The new RACE PRO carcass is designed to give increased puncture protection and improved rolling characteristics. The development team did this by extending the amount of material on the sidewalls, so that it gives more coverage. This fills in a section that previously had only two layers of protection, that has now been increased to three.
While the sidewalls get an extra layer, the main tread has less, to keep the tyre supple and fast-rolling. No need to worry about puncture resistance, as there’s a layer of V Guard underneath. RACE PRO features:
— Same weight – increased puncture protection
— Improved rolling characteristics
— Smooth and comfortable rolling
— Confidence in every riding situation
V-Guard puncture protection
Schwalbe have increased the width of this lightweight, cut-resistant high-tech fibre that sits under the tread. The V-Guard has gained an extra 5mm, that may not sound a lot, but any extra protection is appreciated.
ADDIX compound
Schwalbe have developed a new dual-compound for the G ONE R PRO range. They say the new compound has allowed them to “reduce rolling resistance while providing grip on wet surfaces, making the R PRO line our fastest and safest gravel tires ever.”
ADDIX features;
— New formula
— Fastest ADDIX compound
— Faster middle section
— Grippy compound on shoulder
Which tyre?
The three tyre line-up looks to cover all conditions that you might be racing in. Firstly you have the RS PRO for smooth, dry conditions. Next there’s the R PRO, which is “the perfect tire for riders who cross a variety of terrains.” Finally there’s the newest addition the RX PRO.
If it’s flat-out speed you’re looking for and conditions are firm and dry, then pick the RS PRO. It has a smooth centre patch, with a fine scale-like surface. However cornering on loose surfaces is taken care of by some impressive looking side-lugs. Not sure what you’re going to be riding on? Then Schwalbe would suggest the R PRO. This has a more aggressive tread, that is designed to cope with rougher surfaces and mud.
However if the going is going to be rough and muddy, Schwalbe suggest the RX PRO, with a tread similar to the R PRO, but with more clearance for mud. The tread pattern uses a combination of Schwalbe’s cyclo-cross and gravel treads, with a mix of ‘boomerang’ and straight and curved blocks. The boomerangs come from the G ONE R, while the blocks are from the X ONE R.
Sizes and colours
We all know now that fat tyres aren’t slow and Schwalbe have taken this into consideration with the G ONE R PRO line. The R PRO and RS PRO bot come in four sizes; 35, 40, 45 and 50mm. However the RX PRO drops a size and comes in 40, 45 and 50mm. All the tyres are available in black or transparent (tan wall). While all the tyres are priced at €74.90 on the Schwalbe website, the RX PRO is not in store yet.
