As part of the Autumn/Winter Special we preview the Velotec Elite Camo Winter Jacket.

Despite being around since 2005, producing custom cycle and triathlon team clothing, Velotec have only just released their own retail collection. We have their Velotec Elite Camo Winter Jacket to try out as part of our Autumn/Winter special.

Manufactured from eVent® membrane material, the Velotec Elite Camo Winter Jacket is designed for “extremely harsh and cold climates”. If that sounds like the kind of weather you’ll be riding in then you’ll probably want to take a look at Velotec’s jacket. The eVent® material is a ‘dry system’, that means it doesn’t have to get wet to start working; it’s breathable from the start. Check out the eVent® page where they explain how the system works; there’s also a handy fabric care page.

Velotec’s Elite range of clothing is produced in the Veneto region of Northern Italy and the designs are ” clean and minimalistic”. The whole look is very pro, which is no bad thing in my book. Although the Elite Camo Winter Jacket does have a camouflage pattern, it’s in muted greys, rather than Polti’s crazy yellow and green! There is a touch of colour on the zip guard, with red flashes at the top and bottom, while the back is all red. There are also black and white dashes on the waist and cuffs and branding is discreet, limited to three logos.

While the eVent® fabric does the main work of keeping you dry, a DWR treatment is applied to the outer fabric. This is what makes any water hitting the surface bead and roll off; as well as keeping you dry it also means mud and road grime should be less of a problem. The inside of the jacket is made from a soft, brushed Lombardia fabric which will keep you warm.

Other details are simple; three open rear pockets for storage, no zipped security pockets or holes for earphones. The Elite Camo Winter jacket has one job to do; keeping you riding in the worst conditions! We also have Velotec’s Ladie’s Elite Winter range on review at the moment, read the preview here. I’ll be testing the Velotec Elite Camo Winter Jacket out on the Sussex roads this winter and will report back once we’ve both been thoroughly tested!
