The promoters of the GE Chiltern Cycling Festival have teamed up with Shutt Velo Rapide, who are chipping in £1500 worth of prizes at each of the events being held over the summer.
Shutt have revamped their line and recently launched a “Heritage Jersey” reminiscent in style to the classic British club jersey of cycling’s halcyon days.
Key Features
It is hand crafted somewhere in Great Britain with limited run of just 200. There’s flocked lettering to the front and rear of the jersey with woven Union Jacks on the shoulders. Three rear cargo pockets and an additional 4th zipped, waterproof, valuables pocket with a ring-pull zip take care of your bits and pieces. The jersey is finished with a long, contoured rear hem with reflective trim, an awesome sounding ‘zip garage’ (prevents chaffing on the chin and neck if you were wondering?), and an embroidered head badge design on the rear pocket. Cost is £149.00.
The Events
Last year’s vintage “Concors” competitions attracted large numbers of vintage devotees. Those entering the parades were judged in various categories including:
• Best restored bike
• Finest deportment
• Best Restored Bike
• Best Co-ordinated bike & outfit
• Most authentic vintage rider
• Jolliest festival japer
These Heritage jersey’s will be just the ticket for the Winners of each class. Any retro enthusiast, I imagine, would be dead chuffed to don a jersey reminiscent of the ones worn by some of yesteryear greats, such as Tom Simpson and Barry Hoban.
It is not all about parades though; there will also be some classic sportives being raced throughout the Chilterns, providing entrants and spectators with some amiable retro rivalry.
All the fun is to held in the grounds of two old English houses. Penn House and Chenies Manor will play host and these quintessential British country houses are sure to add to the sense of occasion and celebration of a glorious bygone age.
