Revolights City v2.0 Review
Installation
Simply put, the Revolights are ring of LED lights that connect to the spokes of your wheels. The battery pack is attached to the hub. Makes sense, right?
As mentioned, there is a process to get to this point. For me, the first wheel (front) was a bit of a challenge – all of the small parts, figuring out which end of the spoke attachment should point which way, and then getting it spaced properly.
The second wheel came together easier than a 10 piece puzzle; in other words, there is a bit of a learning curve. Revolights have produced a couple of videos to help you get from the box to the bike. I HIGHLY recommend watching them should you choose to get your own set.
Once you get them on the wheel and get the battery pack attached to the hub, it does take a little finessing to get the light rings in line, as you need to align the rings to the wheel. It doesn’t happen naturally as you’re putting the wheel on, but once you get the wheel on the bike, it is easy to see where you need to make your adjustments. Add the magnet to the fork or chainstay and you’re on your way
Initial Impressions
Depending on your rim’s profile, the look of the Revolights might be a bit of a change. If you have semi-aero rims, it’s not much of a change as it takes up just a little more real estate around the wheel than a rim with a 40mm profile to it. But if you run Mavic Open Pros like I do, it’s a bit like adding that aero cross section when viewed from the side.
When viewed from above, it’s just another piece of hardware but, since it tracks directly with the wheel, it sort of disappears after a while. If you use fenders, you won’t even notice them from above.
