Pere Performance Wear are a new sports clothing company who are aiming to produce quality sports clothing for children. With a house full of children who are at various stages of their cycling journey, I think I know a thing or two about kids clothing…
CycleTechReview received a jersey and pair of shorts from Pere, which were quickly claimed by my 6 year old, a burly young chap which the size 7-8 jersey struggled to contain! With children coming in such a variety of sizes, almost like real people, I would suggest you refer to Pere’s sizing chart on their website to get it right. My 6 year old son was a 7-8 on height, but 9-10 on chest and waist.
Quality of the clothing seems high, with double stitching, zip plackets to protect necks from being pinched, three rear pockets with reflective logo and elastic jersey hem with a silicon gripper. The shorts have a three piece, stitched chamois, which feels soft, but I’d prefer to see a one piece insert, to avoid any chafing.
At £79 for the jersey (£45) and shorts (£34) these are quite an expensive option if you have only one child, as unlike ‘real’ people children have an annoying tendency to grow out of their clothes quickly. If you have more than one child then it may be possible to pass them on down the chain, getting your money’s worth.
With a hopefully long, hot summer beckoning and a new bike begging to be ridden, we hope to give Pere’s offerings a good run over the coming weeks – unless he has another growth spurt…
