The adhesive that keeps a tub attached to its rim may be applied either as a homogenous layer by brush or, for convenience, as a tape. Either way, when removed from the rim, the tub will usually pull away some of the adhesive, which then remains stuck to its base tape. If the tub is not punctured and can be re-used, this is a good thing, since it helps the tub stick to the rim next time it is used.
