The MAAP Block Out range consists of the Pro Jacket and the Team Vest. In basic terms, the “Pro Jacket” is a rain cape and the “Team Vest” is a waterproof gilet. Both items are waterproof but also breathable.
MAAP sent me the Block Out Pro Jacket to test. Through luck or judgement, the Australian company have introduced this breathable rain jacket just as England is being subject to the worst rain I’ve seen in ages.
MAAP designed the Block Out Pro Jacket with freedom of movement in mind. Drytech fabric from Japan is both waterproof and windproof. Thanks to the ClimateControl membrane it also remains breathable to help maintain your optimum core temperature. The Block Out Pro Jacket is designed with an aero fit, but the stretchable membrane fabric allows extra layers without restricting movement.
There’s reflective graphics and tape to aid visibility and a chunky YKK zip that looks like it will easily last for the life of the garment.
The Block Out Pro Jacket isn’t a Winter Jacket as such, but it’s worn over Winter or Summer layers as a rain barrier. So it has the potential to be used all year round.
The breathability is going to be especially relevant for me as I test the Block Out Pro Jacket. My current rain jacket is a last resort if the rain is making me cold. I tend to get damp inside from sweat, so I only put it on when it’s already raining. I’ll also be interested to see whether the “aero fit” of the Block Out Pro Jacket flaps about in the wind.
