Tailfin Carbon Fibre Bike Rack launches on Kickstarter

A new Kickstarter project, the Tailfin Carbon Fibre Bike Rack has launched, could it be the answer for the rider looking for a high-tech bike rack?
If you follow us on facebook you’ll have seen a post I made a few weeks ago mentioning a bike rack that you can fit on your sporty road bike, that was the Tailfin Carbon Fibre Bike Rack and now it’s launched on Kickstarter you could help make the project a reality. Nick Broadbent is a mechanical engineer and he decided that panniers needed a redesign, and that he was going to produce something that would fit any bike AND look quite nice into the bargain.
Nick’s done a great job. The Tailfin rack is superlight at 275g and can take up to 18kg. Fortunately Nick also designed some superlight 24 litre panniers to go with the rack. Made of a carbon fibre backbone and an advanced sailcloth laminate, the panniers compliment the rack, but it can also be used with regular panniers. The sailcloth is waterproof and durable as well as being lightweight.
The rack is designed to fit any bike. It attaches quickly with the help of a replacement skewer, which can be used with or without the rack, and a carbon friendly seatpost connector. To stop thieves removing it quite so quickly, you get a couple of security screws that stop the quick release from opening.
The rack has been extensively tested both on the road and on a testing rig. It comes in frozen white, pitch black and visible carbon, with an additional option of neon green on one of the backer rewards. The Kickstarter has been featured on Road.cc and the GCN show, and is already halfway to target at the end of its first day. Unfortunately this means that a lot of the early bird rewards have gone.
