The dhb Aeron Rain Defence Range aims to keep you riding on those days when the weather is set to ‘Classic’!
With the sun beaming in through my window, now is a perfect time to take delivery of the dhb Aeron Rain Defence range! Well we are experiencing some pretty weird weather at the moment and to be fair although it’s sunny now, give it half an hour and it could be tipping it down.
The dhb Aeron Rain Defence Range is aimed at those days and riders, who no matter the weather, will get out and ride. Jersey, bib-shorts, leg and arm warmers are made from water resistant materials, that are also breathable. The Aeron range is one down from dhb’s top level ASV range and is quality kit; “suitable for energetic and sustained efforts”, which sounds about right for me.
As with all the dhb kit I have reviewed previously, the quality and price of their kit is great. When compared with the jersey that started it all, the Castelli Gabba the Aeron Rain Defence short sleeved jersey is £40 cheaper, which is a big saving.
The jersey uses a mid weight water-proof material, that is also breathable, but with un-taped seams; the advantage offered from taping was marginal and being un-taped helped with the overall breathability. Three rear pockets are covered to protect the contents from the rain and a fourth, zipped pocket is lined with waterproof material. A dropped tail helps keep wheel spray off your rear and can be folded back up when not needed. A full zip will help if things get a little too warm, with hidden rear vents working to keep you from over heating.
The bib-shorts use the same mid weight water-proof material as the jersey and come with a CyTech Comp HP chamois, minimal seams, mesh braces and silicone particle leg grippers. Arm and leg warmers are water resistant, making them great for keeping on during those pre-start downpours.
All this is intended to keep you riding hard when the weather is doing it’s best to slow you down. Rather than wearing flappy, sweaty rain capes, the Rain Defence range should allow you to keep performing without all that bulky clothing holding you back.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for some good weather, but if it doesn’t come it shouldn’t matter, I’ll have the Aeron Rain Defence range to keep me going; and I’ll let you know just how I get on.
