Preview of the supple Challenge Criterium Open Road Tyre
Challenge Criterium Open Road Tyre: the pacy, racy sibling to the Challenge Strada Open Pro tyres we tested last year…
The criterium open road tyres offer the same Puncture Protection Strip (PPS) and aramid bead as the Strada Open Pro but are aimed more at road racing with an extremely supple 320TPI (Threads Per Inch) corespun cotton casing and weighing 215g per tyre.
I have a slight apprehension using these tyres on our shonky road surfaces. After an initial test I hope to keep them aside for closed road circuit racing, opting to use a heavier duty tyre for training but we’ll see. My apprehension may be entirely unnecessary as I have heard good things.
To accompany the real world experience of open tyres we have a set of Challenge SuperLite latex inner tubes too.
The 25mm width and high TPI count casing promise comfort and speed, and the black-tan colour way is going to look fantastic on the bike. I anticipate a faff getting the things on the rim though.
Ride review to follow shortly.
