Josh looks forward to trying out Specialized’s new S-Works shoe.

Previously, as part of the “Do It All Bike Project”, I talked about the Specialized Expert Road Shoe. It is a fantastic shoe and the Boa dial closure system is an absolute killer feature. The S-works version is more of the same. It’s lighter, stiffer and it has even more adjustability with the use of two Boa dials instead of one.

Specialized isn’t resting, though. They are one of the companies making huge strides in aerodynamics for road bikes and they’ve just announced a group of new products designed to cheat the wind. The items include the S Works Venge ViAS bike, the Evade helmet, the Evade GC skinsuit, Roval CLX 64 wheelset and SWorks Turbo tire and a new version of the S-Works shoe.

Unlike many companies, they are not only claiming increased aerodynamics, but actually putting a number on it. In the case of the SWorks 6 shoe, that number is 35 seconds saved over a 40 km time trial. In the near future, I am hoping to bring you a full review of what it’s like to ride with what appears to be a really amazing product. For now, though, take a look at what Specialized has to say about them and let us know if you are as excited as I am:

“The SWorks 6 shoes were scientifically tested by the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine to improve acceleration to peak power over its predecessor. It features a Powerline carbon outsole that’s asymmetrically optimized, and with a Stiffness Index rating of 13.0, it’s Specialized’s most rigid shoe offering.

Complimenting this is an all new PadLockTM heel that combines a drastically tapered, engineered heel cup with moulded pads that lock the foot into place.

Further promoting energy transfer to the pedals, portions of the upper are constructed from a non-stretch, aerospace grade material, Dyneema® Cubic TechTM, that’s so lightweight and powerful that it’s literally used in parachutes to slow down spacecraft.

At the upper, Specialized utilized a one piece Stroble construction method that eliminates the variables that contribute to fit abnormalities.

There’s also a perforated synthetic microfiber that’s lightweight, durable and highly breathable, plus a dual proprietary BOA® S2Snap closure system for precise, secure closure.”
