Preview of the Vredestein Fortezza Senso Xtreme Weather tyres

The Fortezza Senso Xtreme Weather is billed as a ‘competition tyre for extremely cold and wet weather conditions’. Sounds right up our street at this time year though obviously the number of actual competitions is limited…

Vredestein tell us that these tyres have ‘outstanding grip even in wet and cold weather conditions thanks to new XWS compound’ developed for wet and cold conditions; XWS being the type of rubber and stands for Xtreme Weather Silica.

This tread on the Senso Xtreme is wear resistant but still has low rolling resistance. It is also feature packed. First there is TriComp Technology, with different rubber compounds in the centre of the tread compared to the shoulder, apparently ideal for both wet and dry conditions; the compound across the tyre’s shoulder provides extra grip.

Second there is a Curve Control System, which refers to the different rates the centre versus the shoulder of the tyre wears, and in doing so helps to keep a round profile for consistent cornering performance.

As with most tyres in our current test batch, there is a high quality casing of 120 TPI. Puncture protection comes from Vredestein’s ‘Full Protection’ system which is a ‘thick weave polyamide layer’ not only covering the centre but also the tyre sides for added durability.

The tyre comes in 23c / 245g, 25c / 260g, and 28c / 280g width and weights. Our 25c sample weighed in at 258g.

One of us will be getting out there in the muck of winter on these and will report back with a full review soon.
