Oh and there’s also a secret puncture repair patch sewn into the Juggernauts, though you’ll have to get your own pair to find out just where it is. Hey, if I told you it wouldn’t be secret any more.

Okay, time to address the elephant in the room. No, there’s no padding in the Juggernauts. Now on the plus side it does mean they’re comfortable to wear as regular shorts, but for cycling you really do need a little something down there. Well Ground Effect have got you covered with the matching £35.00 Underdogs liner shorts.

While you could simply wear a regular pair of lycra shorts underneath the Juggernauts, and I have been wearing them with 3/4-length lycra bib shorts recently because of the terrible weather, the Underdogs are a far better option when the weather improves due to them being made from lycra mesh.

Key to the riding comfort of the Underdogs is not only the four-panel construction and flat seams, but also the inclusion of Ground Effect’s own Softail Pad, which is a 3D anatomical shaped, multi-level foam, seamless synthetic ‘chamois’ with an anti-bacterial finish. Besides being well shaped the ribbed, polyester-knit face fabric is extremely comfortable next to the skin.
Something else I really like about the Underdogs is the leg grippers. Rather than the more traditional silicon strips, Ground Effect has chosen to use ‘Bandolier’ textured-lycra cuffs. The bottom 2-1/2in of each leg is a dense, stretchy material that grips without the stickiness of silicon strips.

They’re so comfortable that I’ve been using them under my winter longs on road rides and I’m seriously thinking about getting a second pair. As the old saying goings the quality is remembered long after the cost is forgotten.
