Craft Active Bike Thermal Tights

 

Craft has always had a reputation for excellent winter and spring clothing. We’ve been using them for years in California (where weather is much worse than rumours suggest) and the UK. Do the new Craft Active Bike Thermal Tights continue the trend of good cool weather gear?

 

 

Clothing Focused On Sport-Minded Riders

 

Craft offers three different cycling clothing lines. The Active line is Craft’s introductory level, targeting riders new to the sport or of a more casual interest. In general the cuts for these clothes are more roomy, focusing on the build of the population norm rather than wispy racers, feature less extreme tailoring that encourages walking around as well as riding in the gear than the Performance and Elite lines.
 

 
The Active tights include two different fabric types to ensure a comfortable fit while also keeping the rider warm in cooler fall (autumn) and moderate winter conditions. A thicker Lycra stretches over from the top of the leg, knee, and down the shin while the top front and top back of the leg are a thinner material. The thicker fabric covers the areas that are both more exposed to wind chill and the zones (knee and shin) that are most likely to experience cold weather overuse injuries. The thinner fabric keeps the tights supple, non-bunchy, and light-feeling when riding.
 

 
The bottom of the tight features a light gripper around the ankle while the waist is lightly elasticated at the back. The chamois, keeping with the more casual focus, is both smaller around the front of the crotch and slightly thinner than others we’ve ridden, but is soft and resilient.
