Though we didn’t have time to get the position spot-on on our brief ride on the test bikes, the climbing ability again feels solid, so whilst you won’t set any records you are certainly not going to feel held back on long sportives. But you will stay fresh as ride wise the wide 28mm Maxxis tyres are great at taking the edge off any harshness the aluminium frame may transmit from the worst of any rough roads you encounter – we went down one particularly rough farm track to test this and were pleasantly surprised.

The transmission proved trouble free as you’d expect from modern Shimano kit and also worth mention is the bar tape which is non-slip, well padded and very comfortable, an important consideration as the first contact point for potential buyers and for winter riding. There’s certainly a lot of thought gone into these bikes, which all seem to be well specced at each price point. Whyte have once again done a great job, early on, in what is going to be a growing category. If you are looking for a commuter, training or tourer bike then they are well worth a look.
