Wheel Wellies
Wheel Wellies

Wheel Wellies are designed to keep the dirt in and off your clean car interior…
Dirty bikes and clean cars don’t mix very well. In fact dirty bikes don’t mix very well with anything that’s meant to be clean… floors, carpets, kids, etc. If you want to keep those sort of things clean, you need to either wash your bike immediately after riding it, or keep it well away from them; sometimes though it’s just not possible to clean your bike sufficiently before it meets one of the ‘clean’ things…
Now we all know, whether from cyclocross or mountain biking, or even from really messy winter road rides, that it’s the wheels that attract most of the dirt. Wouldn’t it be ideal if there were a way to keep the wheels away from anywhere that you do not want mud? Enter Wheel Wellies.
When we first saw them we thought they were a bit of a gimmick, being similar to track wheel covers of the late 80’s. However, having spent several months with them, we can tell you that they are so much more than that and we now think of them as essential race kit for cyclo-cross.
Finish a race or ride and you can simply slot the wheels away in these tough covers, which then keep the dirt off your car’s interior. Get your bike home and if you can’t clean it straight away or have to transport it through your house or flat to get to the back garden, then you can fit the wheels, complete with covers, into the frame. This also makes Wheel Wellies great for storing your dirty bike until you have a chance to clean it with no worries about getting mud everywhere. They are very useful if you live in a terraced house, flat or apartment.
Wheel Wellies are made in a tough, hard wearing material that is easily cleaned to remove the inevitable build up of dirt on the inside. Each one features plenty of velcro to allow easy attachment over the wheel, even with very cold hands.
Once fitted there is little chance of any mud escaping them as the elasticated edges keep a firm grip on the wheels. They are good for a variety of wheel sizes as well, though we just realised that we are yet to try them on a 29er MTB wheel and big tyre combo; we will give them over to Alastair next time there’s a mountain bike review going on…
A great idea that works, keeping trail muck away from cars, floors and other places you don’t want it. Recommended.
Wheels Wellies cost £14.99 and are available from the Wheel Wellies Website
@handsling Looked at that and thought ‘solution w/o a problem’ and then considered it more and actually it’s a great idea.
