Introducing RearViz Mirror; Bike Safety Made Easy

At first glance the RearViz mirror is akin to a huge compass-cum-wristwatch. It features a shatterproof and weather resistant convex mirror, contained in a rotatable and collapsible casing.

Quite simply this unit is designed to be attached to your arm, thereby affording straightforward rear vision whilst riding. It’s very simple and very clever.

It can be mounted anywhere along the length of your arm using an adjustable velcro armband to keep the mirror in place. The makers claim that the unit won’t break or snap easily, and that it eliminates vibration from the road by being mounted on you the rider. Of course this also means that it has the advantage of being removable so you don’t have to leave it hanging on your bike for someone to steal or vandalise.

On first inspection the actual mirror is a good size and should afford clear rearward vision; we’ll see what our reviewer makes of it when he swings out into London’s rush hour traffic… And that’s its most obvious application, commuting, where we can easily imagine it being really useful, especially in city traffic; but it will also be of interest to anyone who is concious of traffic when out cycling, whether during training, touring, etc.

Whether you are negotiating the rush hour or are giving your all mid-chaingang, it’essential to know what’s behind you. Looking over your shoulder is something that many cyclists are poor at. For many newer riders, it’s a confidence thing, not wanting to take their eyes off the road, so they just pull out hoping for the best; for others, most notably those mid-chaingang, there’s a bullish sense of invulnerability. Either way, even though in law you have the right to do so, it is not advisable to simply pull out from the side of the road into the centre without a rearward glance. RearViz may make that process all the easier…
