Preview of the TIMBUK2 Messenger Bag D-Lux

Timbuk2 were founded in a San Francisco garage in 1989 by a bike messenger named Rob Honeycutt and have continuously manufactured in the city’s Mission District ever since. Renowned for their customisation, quality and bombproof longevity, when I needed a new bag last year the first place I looked to was Timbuk2…

There are a few stockists in the UK if you shop around, but the vendor that offered the best value at the time was Amazon.co.uk.

I didn’t mind too much about customisation and Amazon don’t offer that service anyway (though they do have a lot of choice). The 24-litre, indie plaid/black/reso yellow, D-Lux messenger bag offered me the best looking package for my needs: a messenger or cycle-courier style bag for the daily commute to work, big enough to offer secure storage of a laptop and a day’s worth of clothes and shoes, probably some paperwork, money, keys, bicycle repair kit inc the usual tyre levers, spare tubes, pump and multi-tool, as well as a shower bag and packed lunch.

Most importantly the bag had to be waterproof! There’s nothing worse than slogging the 15 miles to work on the bike only to have to put damp clothes on, and worse still have to explain to my employers why my laptop no longer works…

With a 24L capacity, more organiser pockets and compartments than you can shake a stick at, including a secure high density foam laptop sleeve and an additional sleeve for a tablet too, plus the deal clincher of being completely waterproof, the D-Lux looked to be about right.

I’ll offer you my further thoughts on the bag in a full review very soon.
