Preview of the Time ATAC XC6 pedals

Time’s range of off-road pedals have been with us for a long time now. Here’s a preview of their Time ATAC XC6 pedals that I will be testing over the coming months.

The cyclo-cross season will soon be here; time to sort out your kit and make any kit changes before the racing starts in earnest; first up for me is pedals. Time have been in the bicycle business for over 20 years and it’s safe to say they know a thing or two when it comes to one of the most important interfaces you have with your bike, the pedal. CycleTechReview has taken delivery of a pair of Time ATAC XC6 pedals and I will be trying them out on my local trails and the odd summer ‘cross race, before the cyclo-cross season proper starts.

The XC6 is a composite bodied, steel axled pedal and has shed some weight over their previous model, the ATAC XS. At a penny under a hundred pounds, the ATAC XC6 is a mid-range, quality pedal that should handle anything you can throw at it.

The Time ATAC XC6 uses the tried and tested dual arch engagement system, which has proven very resistant to clogging or unwanted release.

The ATC XC6 has a varied released angle of between 13 & 17 degrees and the wide arches, plus the width between the front and rear arch, allow a wider engagement angle which means quicker engagement with the pedal.

The ATAC XC6's body look neat and crisp now, how will it deal with the demands of off road riding?

I must admit to being a bit biased when it comes to Time pedals. I still ride and race 2 older versions of the ATAC pedals, that are still going strong after more than 15 years, with only one bearing replacement between them.

While my local trails are bone dry and mud free, I’m sure I’ll manage to find some mud to play around in to see if the ATAC’s are still as reliable in the cack. Once we are up and racing properly I’ll let you know how they perform.
