The sharp eyed among you may notice that the Saxo-Tinkoff bike has a long cage rear mech as it was set-up for the hilltop finish on Old Willunga Hill and perhaps had to handle a larger rear sprocket.

A normal short cage rear mech adorns the OmegaPharma bike.

Both teams are still on 10-speed; no Weight Weenie style, do-it-yourself 11-speed Red here. Having 10-speed never stopped anyone winning a race and unless riding Campag, most of us are still on 10-speed. However, with Dura Ace having gone 11 (even if few Shimano pros seem to have it yet) we reckon it won’t be long before SRAM sponsored pros are sporting shiny new 11-speed cassettes as well.

Presumably as its a hillclimb special, Sorensen’s cassette is brand new and unused, whilst Pineau’s cassette below has had a little use.
