MAAP M-Flag Ultra Light Jersey Preview

The M-Flag Ultra Light Jersey is MAAP’s lightest and most breathable jersey to date. It’s designed for the hottest days of Summer or riding in warmer climates.

In many ways the M-Flag Ultra Light is similar to the Kalas Verano jersey I tested last year. The lightweight Italian fabric is knitted and perforated. This results in a high-wicking and fast-drying fabric that’s perfect for warm and humid weather.

The M-Flag Ultra Light Jersey has one well considered feature that I haven’t seen on any of the other lightweight Summer jerseys until now. The back panel fabric has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30. So unlike Chris Froome or Louis Meintjes, you won’t get a sunburnt back due to the lightweight fabric letting the sun’s rays through. Just like with the Kalas jersey though, any unsightly tattoos or marks on your torso will be visible through the M-Flag Ultra Jersey. The material really is that thin.

The pockets look quite small, and there’s no zipped pocket. The overall look is quite neat though.

MAAP uses YKK zips and I’ve found them to be durable and easy to use. The aero cut, with long sleeves and a low-profile collar are on trend for these type of lightweight Summer jerseys. There’s 3 rear pockets, stitched to provide minimal sag and positioned for easy access to the side pockets.

The YKK zips that MAAP uses perform very well.

I’ve found similar jerseys perfectly reasonable to wear in the UK with a base layer on cooler days. If you’re planning on some Summer rides in a country where the heat can get overwhelming, then the M-Flag Ultra Light would be a perfect accompaniment.

The Italian fabric provides good ventilation, fast-wicking and quick-drying.
