Reynolds Attack Disc Wheelset Preview

First look at the disc version of Reynolds’ popular Attack wheels.

Road and cyclo-cross disc braking is no longer a niche – the pro-peloton may well have turned their backs on it all, for now, and a good chunk of professional cyclo-cross riders still preferring canti’s – but with the benefit of greater stopping control and consistency in all weather conditions disc brakes are fast becoming a popular choice.

The Attack wheels are the lightest and shallowest wheel in the Reynolds Performance line engineered with the benefit of disc braking for road-disc and cyclo-cross-disc use. The Reynolds ATTACK DISC brake wheel offers a tubeless-ready 25mm (external) cross section to support the trend toward wider road tyres, ensuring a better tyre profile and a more supple ride.

The wheels have been supplied to me by Upgrade Bikes, and delivered with wheel bags and a number of hub, axle and rotor adaptors. There is a steady increase in cyclo-cross bikes engineered with thru-axle (the same is true for road bikes too) and these wheels can be supplied with 15mm or 12mm thru-axle adaptors if you are considering an upgrade from the stock OEM wheelset that came supplied with your new bike, or if you are building up a new frame yourself, as well as offering a 9mm QR option too. They have centrelock rotor mounting as standard or you can add a 6 bolt rotor adaptor if necessary, making these wheels something of an adaptable chameleon for whatever configuration you’re bike and component parts require.

Looking smart on the Ritchey

Looking smart on the Ritchey

I’ve stuck these on my Ritchey Swiss Cross Disc bike and they look incredibly smart – my bike has a standard 9mm QR axle and my Shimano ICE Tech rotors are centre-locking – I’ve yet to upgrade my frame and fork to thru-axle just yet, but it is something I have been seriously considering.

The Attack wheels have a quality finish as you would expect from Reynolds, for a set of disc wheels they are very light and the tubeless ready rims are a real bonus I’ll be sharing my ride thoughts with you very soon.
